Baselworld 2015: Omega Speedmaster

By  |  0 Comments

The Omega booth at Baselworld is serious business. Three floors filled with meeting rooms, staff and most importantly – watches. We picked our three favorite news from the Speedmaster series.

Omega Speedmaster DSOTM “Black Black”
How many sides of the moon is there really? Plenty, if you ask Omega. The Dark Side of the Moon lines latest addition is this beauty called Omega Speedmaster DSOTM “Black Black” (ref Ref. 311. In space everything is really black and I suspect that is the inspiration for this watch because everything from bezel to hands are black. It’s really cool to see the Super-LumiNova glow in the dark because it gives the watch a complete different look. Inside is the caliber 9300 and the power reserve is 60 hours. The case is 44,25 mm and the nylon strap makes the watch wear great.

Omega Speedmaster “First Omega In Space” Numbered Edition
It’s 39,7 mm, made out of Sedna Gold, has tropic colored subdials and has a stunning panda dial. The Omega Speedmaster “First Omega In Space” Numbered Edition fulfills all of the criteria for a collector. It’s easy to make one to many re-edition or homage but Omega keeps on producing watches for us that like vintage and they do it very well.

Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award
This is Omegas tribute to the Apollo 13 expedition and the 45th anniversary of the expedition. The steering failed on the way back from the moon and the astronauts had to manually activate the extra steering rockets for exactly 14 seconds to re-enter earth safely. That’s why the first 14 seconds on the chronograph dial is dedicated to that moment with the sentence “What could you do in 14 seconds?”. Omega received a silver Snoopy award for their Speedmaster that actually saved the whole mission. Inside is the caliber 1861 and the power reserve 48 hours. The same manual winding movement that was on the moon actually. 42 mm big and in stores in september.
